Life in Gainesville

Welcome to Gainesville, Florida!

We are home to the University of Florida and the Gator Nation.Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

Gainesville may be a classic college town when it comes to UF’s campus and athletic events, but there is so much more to this city than the university.  Gainesville has almost anything you could want in a city: downtown nightlife, local restaurants, farmers’ markets, sports teams, and a surprising art scene.

But Gainesville also has everything you could want from a Florida city: sunshine and water!  While we may not be a beach town, we do have natural springs and lakes less than an hour away in any direction, which provide ample opportunities to cool down during the summer.  But if you are set on a relaxing beach day, you will be in a centralized location that puts you less than two hours away from famous beaches and attractions.

Overall, Gainesville is a place for everyone.  There is something for everyone: the academic, the young professional, the athlete, the artist, the social butterfly, and even the retiree.  We love calling Gainesville home, and we can’t wait for you to love it, too!

“During my time as a UF Health Shands Administrative fellow, I had the opportunity to work on meaningful projects, make life-long connections, and learn to become a better leader. Each day of the fellowship is different, and whether you are shadowing, working on projects, or observing leaders, you will always be doing something new. Our preceptors are truly invested in the fellowship and challenge you to grow both professionally and personally. As a fellow, you are treated as part of the team and get the chance to work on projects with leaders across the organization. UF Health Shands is a great place to learn and start your career!”
